Fred Z. Poritsky
Drums & Percussion
Fred is a life-long resident of the Delaware Valley. He received his formal musical training in the Philadelphia school system beginning in the 5th grade and also had private lessons at The Beck School of Music in Northeast Philly.
Fred has been in a band ever since picking up a set of drumsticks at 11 years old. Fred’s first band, The Echoes, was where he developed a love of the classic rock music that he continues to play today. Fred cites Ringo Starr of The Beatles, John Bonham of Led Zeppelin and Hal Blaine of the famous Wrecking Crew as his major Rock n’ Roll drum influences. Fred says “My dad’s love of jazz, dixieland, swing and big band music had me listening to Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, and many other drummers of those eras.
Fred was a co-founder of the popular Wedding/Bar/Bat Mitzvah band Shir Chadash, which played throughout the tri-state area for 25 plus years. In the interim, Fred performed in pit orchestras for community theater and other functions.
“BCX is a great fit for me and allows me to continue playing the music that I grew up with.”
